Book "Patterns in the landscape" by Philip Hughes
Patterns in the Landscape by Philip Hughes (1988) is an intimate record of ten years of travel, inspired by the artist’s discovery of a simple recycled-paper notebook that reshaped his creative process.
Captivated by its texture and form, Hughes began working directly into notebooks, building a visual diary of the landscapes he encountered. This signed copy showcases striking images from the South Downs in Sussex and the Luberon in France to the vivid terrains of Bungle and Cabbage Tree Creek in Australia.
Published to coincide with a touring exhibition of his work in Australia, it offers a personal and beautifully observed exploration of place, memory and artistic response.
