Cambridge Pye Bakelite valve radio with Bluetooth
Pye P78
This Pye vintage valve radio, Model No.P78 dates from around 1953 and was manufactured at the Radio Works, Cambridge. It incorporates four valves in a Superheterodyne circuit (2 AF stages) with two AM wavebands, Long Wave and Medium Wave. The set is mains powered (200-250 Volt) and features a large elliptical loudspeaker 7 inches x 4 inches. Reception on both AM bands is good, particularly MW, and the warm, rich sound of this valve radio is sure to impress. The case is a brown Bakelite with a cream coloured grill with additional brass and gold-effect trim. There are minor signs of age-appropriate wear, adding to its charm and authenticity. It has been thoroughly cleaned, both inside and out, with the Bakelite case having a final clean and polish.
The electronics within the set have been fully tested and refurbished, and components replaced with modern equivalents where required. Any suspect wiring has also been replaced and the set has a new mains cord with a 3A fuse being fitted to the plug.
To enhance the functionality and longevity of this set it has been augmented by the addition of a Bluetooth PCB incorporating a 5V DC power supply. This can be controlled from any smartphone and features automatic switching between the radio and Bluetooth. This allows access to any Internet radio stations and apps such as Spotify, BBC Sounds, Radio Paradise, Jazz FM, Classic FM etc. to name but a few.
Don’t miss this opportunity to own a piece of history! Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just starting out, this Pye P78 valve radio is a fantastic addition to any collection.
