The volume contains an introductory essay and notes by Wilfrid Noyce, which accompany 230 black-and-white photographs. The descriptive essays that link the photographs were written by Karl Lukan. 
Wilfrid Noyce (1917-1962) was an English mountaineer and author who was part of the 1953 British Everest Expedition, which successfully made the first ascent of the mountain. Karl Lukan (1923-2014) was an Austrian mountaineer, archaeologist, and author.
