A pottery mug of Nethy Bridge

Nethybridge Pottery Mug

Crafted by potter Robert Lawson at Nethy Bridge Pottery in the Scottish Highlands, these drip glaze stoneware mugs are exceptional pieces of studio pottery.

Lawson was renowned for his mastery of wood-fired kilns—a traditional firing technique that allows wood ash to fly through the chamber and fuse with glazes, creating rich textures and unpredictable, vibrant color variations unique to every single burn.

Wood-fired pottery is highly prized by collectors because no two firings can ever be replicated. The atmospheric conditions inside the kiln leave subtle ash deposits and flame marks directly on the clay, ensuring each mug is a completely one-of-a-kind art piece.

Priced at £26 each, these mugs feature Lawson’s signature drip glaze finish cascading down tactile stoneware body forms. Available in two versatile sizes—a small H10cm format perfect for a strong morning white coffee, and a larger H14.5cm size ideal for long teas or hot chocolates—these pieces combine rustic Scottish heritage with everyday durability.
